Introduction

CareTrainr

A team of two entrepreneurs from the in-home care space approached me to design their concept: a mobile application to be used by families and private care agencies to facilitate care activities. The goals of this early stage venture were to digitize many of the manual processes around in-home care, and to allow caregivers to share essential healthcare information when it matters most.

Leveraging insights from families, professionals, and agency leadership I led the brand and first release of this innovative platform.Connecting families and patients with their caretakers through a mobile platform.

Brand

Designed to evoke positive emotions and communicate the app's focus on healthcare services, the CareTrainr logo serves as metaphor for unity in care.

Research

Interviews of end-users and industry professionals, played a critical role in defining the problem statement and informing the design and development of every feature.

This human-centered approach fosters empathy, collaboration, and innovation, ultimately driving adoption and success in the marketplace.

Insight

Feedback from families evolved into journey maps where opportunities were turned into the application’s core features: Profile, Training, Calendar, and Care Notes. I interviews 6 professional caretakers and 4 families to kickstart the design and prototype phase of the project.

Video Guides

From interviews with families and insights gathered from surveying care professionals, I concluded that video guides was the easiest way to provide instructional material.

Videos are far more descriptive than notes and caregivers can update them to reflect the most recent changes in care routine.

This would replace sticky notes and paper guides which would often become outdated — posing a health risk in long-term care.

Care Notes

Care notes are at the core of CareTrainr’s value proposition. This feature is a direct substitute to a traditionally manual task: hourly care notes taken by caregivers as required by agencies. Digitizing this process provides legibility and visibility for families, agencies, and fellow caregivers.

Insight

During testing, caregivers pointed out, not just the importance of care notes, but the ability to highlight a note as important. To accomplish this, a flag was introduces as an attribute of every note. Caregivers can use this visual indicator to separate an important note from the rest.
